Agriculture Mechanics Course Offerings

Agriculture Mechanics I-Basic Mechanics
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: None
Length: Two trimesters
Description: Class and shop instruction is given in basic arc and gas welding, metalwork, tool identification, tool maintenance, and use of hand and power tools. Wood and metal fabrication projects will be required. Students enrolled in Agricultural Mechanics I – Basic Mechanics will find the class more meaningful with an ornamental horticulture or agriculture science background. Students are encouraged to build practical projects and do simple constructiontype jobs. Instruction is also given in leadership, citizenship and project programs through
department activities.

Agriculture Mechanics II-Agriculture Construction
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Agricultural Mechanics I – Basic Mechanics or consent of teacher
Length: Two trimesters
Description: Class and shop instruction is given in basic electricity, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, drafting, drawing, and surveying. Special emphasis is placed on agricultural construction projects and career education. Instruction is also given in leadership, citizenship and project programs through department activities.

ROP Agriculture Construction
Grade Level: 11, 12 or age 16
Recommended Prerequisite: Agricultural Mechanics II – Agriculture Construction, or Metal I, or Basic Welding
Length: Two trimesters
Description: Students will be able to expand on their skills developed in previous metals and welding classes. Students will be able to select a specific area of interest which will enable them to construct projects of any size.
